Jessica's Family
My Family's Forever Home

I'm Jessica, a mom of two boys: Owen, who is seven, and Nathaniel, who is four. I grew up in Oshawa, Ontario, and moved to Alberta in 2008. My friends and family would sum up my personality as friendly, funny, and kind-hearted. I am an animal lover, and nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family and pets. My two children can be described as happy-go-lucky, intelligent and sweet. We are lucky to have both cats and dogs.
Our family loves spending time together. All of our most treasured memories are those spent in meaningful time together. Some of our favourite memories include Christmas morning breakfasts, outings with Grandma, and cherished moments with Grandpa. These memories and traditions have shaped our family.
I applied to Habitat Red Deer's Affordable Homeownership program because it seemed like a great fit for my family. Becoming a homeowner felt out of reach for my family and me, but the Affordable Homeownership Program brought back hope. After applying, I was struck by how informative and respectful the entire process was; the assistance offered made me feel dignified and valued.
The moment I received the news that we had been selected to become a part of the Affordable Homeownership Program, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I couldn't believe it! My kids are also excited about the opportunity to move into our Habitat home. My children have special needs and will have the space and safety of a community to be supported and thrive. We have dreamed of creating a sensory play room for them to enjoy. In previous homes we have rented, it has been challenging to accommodate sensory items and toys for our children due to limited space, but now I will be able to provide this for them. I know it will make all the difference. I am looking forward to my children having a forever home with this opportunity. Becoming a Habitat Homeowner will provide my family with security and give us dignity.
Habitat Red Deer's Affordable Homeownership Program has provided me with the rewarding feeling of giving back to my community as well, through volunteering. The program has been supportive of me, and I genuinely feel cared for. I am happy to be a part of this program.
I am happy to share my story, and would advise others in the community to get involved with Habitat Red Deer's Affordable Homeownership Program. Even if it seems too good to be true, if you genuinely feel in need, you should reach out, learn more, and apply! Tell your story, be honest, your family deserves a chance. Families need to have a safe and affordable home, as it makes the difference between security and stress.
I am incredibly impressed and thankful for Habitat, as it has changed my children's future. I have peace of mind knowing that my children will have a home for the future, filled with great memories and a sense of security. I love this organization beyond words. You have changed our lives, and I could not express my gratitude in one lifetime.
