"Never Back Down, Never Give Up"

The Carr Family

Chris, Tarin, Austin, Zoey, Jonas, Skyler, and Ryker initially heard of Habitat for Humanity through Dawn Lundquist, another Habitat partner family. In the past, the Carr’s have rented and had many issues ranging from everything from electrical issues, mold, heating issues, and theft. Being a larger family, the space and budget constraints of renting created a lot of stress and a feeling of never really feeling “at home”.

When the Carr’s were told they were selected as one of the partner families at Phase II Aspen Lakes Blackfalds, there were tears of joy, relief, excitement, and brief disbelief.

When asked what their family motto would be, the Carr’s would summarize it as “Never back down, never give up.”

Update

Three months ago, the Carr family became homeowners and moved into their house in Aspen Lakes Blackfalds. They shared with us an update about how things have been for them in the past couple of months as homeowners. Their new home has been a place for them to host life milestone celebrations, build community, and bond as a family. We are so happy for the Carr family and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these new homeowners!

“So much has changed for us since owning our own home. We hosted a baby shower at our home, with 45 people in attendance. There was plenty of space and room for everyone to gather. On Mother's Day, we hosted all the important moms in our life, and they got to relax. In addition, we held a graduation gathering. Our son could have friends and family over and be proud of the home that we are in. Homeownership has given us so many things! A space to call our own and the opportunity to meet friends along the way. We are proud of what we have, being able to set things up in our home the way that we want to. We have gotten very close with our neighbours, having breakfast and plenty of fun times together. Our kids all play every day. Often, you will see 8-12 kids riding their bikes together or playing in the pool. For us, it's more than owning a home; it’s building friends and stronger families. No dollar amount can be put on what we have gained. Words don't express what we have. Our stress has been lifted in so many ways, and this is our new life, and nothing can take it away from us. Thank you again, Habitat Red Deer; you will never know how your work has changed our lives.” – The Carr Family.
