Habitat for Humanity Red Deer to host three information sessions for families

Red Deer, Alberta, March 20, 2023: Habitat for Humanity Red Deer invites Central Alberta families interested in affordable homeownership to attend one of their upcoming information sessions. Habitat Red Deer is hosting two Zoom sessions, one on March 30th and the other on April 11th, both from 6 PM- 7 PM. An in-person session on April 3rd will be held from 6:30 PM- 7:30 PM at Crossroads Church.

The sessions are meant to provide information about Habitat’s affordable homeownership program, and to answer questions on eligibility criteria, how to apply, and the family selection process.

With a projected ground-breaking date of June 2023, Habitat for Humanity Red Deer will begin construction on four units (two duplexes) in the Red Deer neighbourhood of Evergreen. These units will be three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes with an attached garage and unfinished basement. Once completed, Red Deer Evergreen will mark Habitat Red Deer’s 50th home built in Central Alberta since 1994, making it a milestone legacy build for the local charity.

“As we complete our current build in Blackfalds, we look forward with anticipation to starting our next build in Red Deer. This will be the first Habitat build in Red Deer since 2018 and we are already receiving inquiries from donors and volunteers about how they can become involved, “ notes Karen Vavrek, CEO. “Habitat Red Deer continues to play a critical role in increasing the supply of affordable housing in Central Alberta communities. Partnerships between the non-profit community, all levels of government and the private sector are absolutely critical in helping to address the affordable housing crisis we all face.”

As a beginning step to program eligibility, Habitat Red Deer encourages individuals to complete the Eligibility Quiz found on their website at www.habitatreddeer.ca.

Those who wish to attend any of the information sessions are asked to register by

e-mail with Aspen Boone-Windrim, Family Services Manager at aspen.boonewindrim@habitatreddeer.ca.

Please note that attendance at an information session is mandatory prior to applying to the program.

We recognize that the land on which we work, gather, and live is within the territory of the Blackfoot, Tsuu T’ina, and Stoney Nakoda peoples and that the Central Alberta region we serve falls under Treaty 6, traditional Métis, Cree, and Saulteaux territory. We acknowledge and honour the First Peoples who have lived here since time immemorial. We stand with the Indigenous peoples of Alberta and continue to advocate for reconciliation.
