Media Release: 2022 Family Selection info sessions

Habitat for Humanity Red Deer invites individuals interested in affordable homeownership to attend upcoming information session.

RED DEER, Alberta, January 12, 2022: Habitat for Humanity Red Deer is inviting Central Alberta families interested in affordable homeownership to attend one of their upcoming information sessions. The first session is to be held in-person from 6 PM to 7 PM Tuesday, January 25th at the Abbey Centre in Blackfalds. The second session will be delivered via Zoom the following evening, Wednesday January 26th from 6 PM- 7 PM.

The sessions are meant to answer questions families may have about affordable homeownership opportunities, and to provide information on the application criteria and family selection process. The family selection process will commence February 1st, with families being selected for 4 duplex housing units, set to break ground in spring of 2022.

With a projected possession date of early 2023, Habitat for Humanity Red Deer’s newest build, located in the Aspen Lakes neighborhood in Blackfalds, will be able to accommodate four new Habitat partner families.

“The opportunity for homeownership with Habitat gives me confidence knowing I can provide my children a forever home and start a completely new chapter. All families need a safe and decent home to feel secure, and to not always have to wonder, ‘What’s next?’”, notes a current Habitat homeowner.

“Our information sessions are the first step in applying for a Habitat home”, says Janelle Duffin, Habitat Red Deer’s Family Services Manager. “We encourage anyone interested in affordable homeownership to join us for the information session, all are welcome.”

Individuals who wish to attend either of the information sessions are asked to please register by e-mailing info@habitatreddeer.ca. Please note that the Abbey Centre in Blackfalds is a REP (restrictions exemption program) facility, so proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required to attend the in-person session.
