Let us introduce you to a very special volunteer, Bill Gibbons. At Habitat Red Deer we appreciate and value all of our fantastic volunteers, but today we wanted to shine the spotlight on Bill and his unique and special tie to Habitat Red Deer.
Whilst Habitat Red Deer was founded in 1994, Bill is responsible for starting the ReStore for our affiliate, way back in 2001. Being already involved in the homebuilding side of Habitat Red Deer, Bill saw the impact that the ReStore as a social initiative retailer could have for Habitat Red Deer and our community, and he travelled around Western Canada to existing ReStore’s to help him build out the framework for Red Deer’s own ReStore.
Because of Bill and his tireless dedication to affordable homeownership and Habitat Red Deer, the Red Deer ReStore went from a dream to a reality in 2001. In addition to his work starting the ReStore, Bill was also involved with Habitat Red Deer operations and was a part of the first three Habitat homes ever built in our community, located in Riverside Meadows on land that had been donated to Habitat Red Deer by the city.
Today, in 2022, Bill is back again and he is volunteering at the ReStore. To us, this is such a special and full-circle moment that we just had to share with all of you. Because of the work of tireless and dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners, Habitat Red Deer has been able to make an impact in the lives of hardworking Central Alberta families for the past 28 years.
Thank you, Bill. And if you see him at the ReStore today or another day, make sure you say “Hello” to this very special volunteer who is a very important part of our story.
